NIA's Apmex Review

APMEX's web site is easy to navigate using the menu on the left side of the page, where you start out by choosing between gold, silver, platinum, or palladium. After choosing the type of precious metal, you can then choose between their different types of coins or choose to view their list of bars for sale. For gold, APMEX offers one of the largest varieties of coins out of all the companies in our review including: American Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, American Buffalo, Austrian Philharmonics, South African Kruggerands, and Chinese Pandas. For many of their coins, APMEX offers a wide range of different sizes including: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz.

APMEX offers the largest variety of gold bars ranging from 1 gm to 400 oz. For the 1 oz bars alone, APMEX offers a choice between bars containing the logos of APMEX, Credit Suisse, Engelhard, Pamp Suisse, and Scotiabank. APMEX even offers .999% pure gold shot that you can order by the ounce.

APMEX's web site is lacking a full product page to compare the prices of their different types of coins together on one page. You must navigate to each separate page for each type of coin, which makes it a little more difficult to compare prices.

APMEX does offer a great feature to price their items in many different foreign currencies including the Canadian Dollar, Austrailian Dollar, British Pound, Euro and Japanese Yen.

At the time of our review update, APMEX’s prices were $10.63 higher than Bullion Direct for a 1 oz American Eagle, $20.33 higher than Bullion Direct for a 1 oz Canadian Maple Leaf, $8.97 higher than Gainesville Coins for a 1 oz South African Kruggerand, and $27.29 higher than Kitco for a 1 oz Credit Suisse gold bar. APMEX’s prices for gold decline slightly when ordering in quantity, but were still slightly higher than Gainesville Coins.

For silver, APMEX's 1 oz .999% pure silver bar was the highest priced out of all the companies in our review, priced $1.68 higher than Gainesville Coins at the time of our review update. APMEX's price for one 1 oz American Eagle Silver Coin was $1.55 higher than Lear Capital at the time of our review update.

APMEX’s price for overnight shipping of one gold coin was $24.95, but it jumped to $56.93 when choosing a credit card for payment. After calling APMEX’s customer service we were informed that when using a credit card, a 3% fee gets added into the shipping cost.

APMEX’s cancellation penalty is $35 plus their market loss for the items.

Our order from APMEX arrived in only 5 days (3 business days) making them the second fastest company in our review to process and ship our order.
